Descant and harmonization
Ye choirs of new Jerusalem
for the Choir of St Peter's Peterston
to celebrate the installation of the Nicholson Organ at Llandaff Cathedral
Hymn descants © David Maurand
Despite it's anglicized name, this is a German tune that appeared first in 1784, with the text Ave Maria, klarer und lichter Morgenstern ("Hail Mary, clear and bright morning star").
This descant was written for the Choir of St. Peter's Peterston for services featuring the new (Easter 2010) Nicholson organ at Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff, Wales (below). It features a more dramtatically altered organ part from another descant written to the same tune.
